The best way to solve the world's environmental problem is to increase the cost of fuel. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement? Give your opinion.

  1. Increasing the price of fuel is not a guarantee that our environment will be free from any pollution. There are many alternative ways to do, to save our environment from pollution. So I am totally not in favor to the statement.
Nowadays, fuel is to be considered as necessity of people. Most of us are using car to go for work or any place we want and some are taking public vehicle that fuel is really needed to make it work. Considering the cost of fuel was increased, then everyone will be affected, not just the transportation but also the price of goods, services and lifestyle of people. And we do not really like it to happen in the near future. Through the advancement of our technology there are many types of vehicle that are already invented which is pro-environment to use. I think, the government should do something on how to solve the problem related to environment, like preventing others from deforestation, planting more trees, enforcing of proper segregation of waste and promoting the use of equipment or machines with eco-friendly tag.
To sum up, having the high cost of fuel is not the resolution to environment problems, instead focusing on some alternative ways that will not affect to our standard of living, like adopting cars that are not producing too much pollution, promoting green environment by planting trees, implementing strict laws of prohibiting deforestation and littering. And the most important is discipline for everyone, to love and taking care of our mother earth.

  3. Worldwide environmental pollution continuously increases in an alarming significance each year. It has been the struggle of man to solve the issue. Many propositions were considered and one of which is increasing the fuel cost. Others find the proposition acceptable but in my own opinion, it will not solve the crisis rather it will just contribute to the existing problem. Two main points i considered, first - there is no direct relation between the fuel cost to the environmental pollution, second - consider the effects of increasing fuel cost to the consumer.

First, the only direct relationship of fuel cost with the environmental pollution is the existing technology of burning fossil fuels such as coal and the product of combustion of gasoline which greatly contribute to the air pollution. However increasing the cost of fuel will not solve the issue. People need electricity to light their houses, they need gasoline to power their cars, and machines need fuel to perform its functions and people have been accustomed to these type of lifestyle and they would do everything to live up to the same lifestyle. Thus the proposition will not solve the issue but contribute to the problem.

Secondly, the fuel cost is always relative to the prices of commodities and services. Increasing the cost will cause a domino effect to the prices of commodities and services. Machine needs fuel to function and produce our basic needs such as food, parts of our shelter and clothing. Then it just empirical to conclude that increasing the fuel cost will definitely increase the amount we pay for food, shelter and clothings, but it never address the environmental problems.

Instead of suggesting an increase in the cost of fuel to aid in the environmental crisis, the government should focus on formulation and strict regulation of policies regarding waste disposal, waste segregation and recycling. A coal plant waste product can be strictly monitored if policies are implemented. Fair and punitive punishment can be given to companies that will not obey to the laid policies. Advancement in research and technology is also suggested to create environment-friendly machines. This includes vehicles that contributes less to air pollution, machines run not by gas but by other means that emits lesser pollution.

Global environment crisis needs aggressive approaches. Increasing the fuel cost is neither an aggressive approach nor the solution to the problem.
